Sorry to myself

We had a wonderful night tonight. The Kartchners came by, and the kids played. It's getting to be so much fun with the kids getting a bit older. It's also nice that the wives/moms and husbands/dads get along. While putting the kids to sleep, Justin was carrying Harrison to the bathroom. HH was a little wiggly and resistant, and Justin was a little tipsy. HH bonked his head on the sink counter and started crying. I threw a glance at Justin not realizing he was this tipsy to not even realize HH had bonked his head. Justin felt bad about it I could see. I left Justin to bath the kids while I got milk for Max (although I worried if I should leave them while Justin was so tipsy). While I was out, I heard Justin apologize to HH. Then HH said, "It wasn't you daddy, it was me. I bonked my head. I'm sorry to myself." Sniff sniff

Story with Daddy

one night when going to bed i told Harrison and Max the story of of a turtle and a snail who went outside and found a post hole digger in front of their house. So naturally, the turtle and the snail drove the post hole digger up and down their street digging holes all over the place. afterwards, they learned that cars were getting stuck in all the holes they dug so the turtle and the snail went to get a crane to then lift all the cars, one at a time, out of the holes. Afterwards, the turtle and the snail went and got a cement mixer and and filled all the holes they dug on their street. At the end of the day the turtle and the snail were so tired but had so much fun driving all the construction vehicles around. At the end of the story Harrison asked me, "why didn't the turtle and the snail just not dig the holes so deep so the cars wouldn't get stuck?" At that point i replied, "that's a great question. now it's time for bed." :)

Maga's Bday and the Montage

We had a great time celebrating Maga's bday at the Montage today. Boy, were we under dressed! Who knew it was such an event. Happy 60th Maga!
"That is SO not incredible." HT

Dragon Nipples

Halloween inspired me to get costumes for play (and I waited until AFTER halloween to get them at a discount). Grandma and I decided on a giraffe and a dragon. Last week Max had the dragon costume on. Harrison asked, "Is that the dragon's belly?" pointing to the gold patch sewn onto the green. "Yes," I replied. Max then pointed to the area sort of near his armpits with nothing but green and asked me, "dragon nipple??"

going to bed

Tonight while we were reading books good night, Max was holding Boo. HH asked, "can I pet Boo, Max?"
MM: "Mm ya"
HH: "thanks for letting me pet him, Max."
MM: "welcome"

Cantelope Fall

After HH fell down today at the Long Beach El Dorado park with Moni, Della and her mom, he kept asking things like, "Why did I fall down? Why did I not be careful?" Then he said, "next time mommy you will have to help me hold the cantaloupe." I said, "next time, we will sit down and eat."

That's what I get for trying to beat the clock against nap times. Too much rushing.

Choo choo at grandma's

This weekend when we went to the beach house, HH said to me, "mommy, when you go run errands, I'm going to watch Choo Choo (his Thomas video)."

The price we pay for babysitting.

Protective older brother

last week, it was another day i was alone in the evening trying to get dinner together. the boys this time wanted to play outside, even though i was inside. they also, of course, insisted on taking off all of their clothes (but diapers and underwear i convince them to keep on). they were playing and running around, and then a fly was buzzing around Max. He hates this and started yelling "BEE BEE!" HH ran over, and put his arms around MM from behind. by the time i got there (i know BEE BEE is a little MM alarm) the two of the them were looking at me, almost naked, spooned, MM eased and protected...

and of course, i almost cried.

but the other amazing other parts about this story are 1) HH being protective, instead of stealing toys away, and 2) MM letting HH protect him, instead of hitting him for trying to give him hugs. in a time of crisis, they will act appropriately, hopefully.

Beach Milestone and Lawn Bowling

HH and I started the day at our beach forest kindergarten class. I had doubts about this class but today was the first day HH wanted to have the ocean water touch his feet! Mission accomplished. Now, I just have to continue going so he continues to peel away his fears for the ocean. Sigh.

This evening we attended an advisory circle event for the Laguna Beach Museum of Art. It was a lawn bowling event, and after not being able to find a babysitter, we decided to take the kids along. We were probably some of the youngest, and the only people who brought kids. At any rate, after a lot of running and convincing the balls weren't for rough play (boys don't understand) we managed to roll a couple down the lawn. Justin and I had a lot of fun trying it for our first time.

Kei falling

On Max's bday last week, we had Mevheen and Kei over for cupcakes. While we were in the backyard, Kei fell down the stairs a bit, but skillfully didn't hit his head. Max points at the place where he fell and says "Kei" in a really sad voice. Now inside the house, he falls to the floor and says "Kei" also... I'm not sure how far Max is going to take this...

Tree of Life Nursery

We went to a CA native nursery with the boys this weekend, and all they were interested in were the tractors and cookies in the gift shop.

Painting

Spent the day off from work plein air painting with the boys.

Putting the boys to sleep

Last night the boys were wanting mommy to put them to bed (instead of either kid wanting daddy). So I said, "well, I want daddy to put me to bed, so Harrison you put max to bed." The two boys looked at each other and said "ok night night," walked out of the room and shut the door. So Justin and I snuck out and got the baby monitor to then watch Harrison first picking out books for Max, 3 books. Then they went to the rocking chair, and Harrison said to Max, "sit on my lap." After a bit of trial and error, max finally got onto Harrison's lap, and then Harrison couldn't see a thing in the book, so he pushed max to the side of him. He first read to him "Let's go." I went I'm and said "ok I'm going to put Max to sleep after this." "No mommy, 3 books." (Which is how we put HH to sleep)

I wish Max didn't have to be lifted into his crib because I would have wanted to see it all the way through. The boys can be so sweet together.

Del Mar Fair

Out of everything from the Del Mar fair the one thing the boys wanted to have their picture taken with was this trash can.

Restroom

Harrison's favorite question of late is (even at home): "Where is the restroom?"

Shoes

HH told me not to wear my Birks; he likes the tan ones better.

Max's words

It sounds pretty funny to hear him say "mommy" instead of "mama." He says, "blue, ball, car, star, (last 2 with a Boston accent) dada, more, purple, eat, choo choo." That's all I can think of.

My little musician

I used to think all of those stories about musicians starting when they were "3 years old" was total bogus. I mean, what ARE kids really "interested" in that young, right? Well, Max saw this in the newspaper and kept pointing and grunting at it. Then he went and got his guitar (ukelele) and started playing!

Rain

The other day Harrison was sitting on his potty and he looked at the towel hanging and said, "rain. Is that rain, mommy? It's like Babybug with the rain boots!" Babybug is a series of books he has.

"Makes me sad"

When Harrison cries he sometimes says "that makes me sad." I love that he's talking about his feelings.
